Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has announced her third studio album, revealing both its title and release date in a post shared with fans.

The 23-year-old said her new record, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, will be released on 12 June. In a message on social media, she wrote that she was “so proud of this record” and “can’t wait” for listeners to hear it.

Rodrigo, who rose to global fame with her 2021 hit Drivers License, also offered insight into the themes of the album. In a handwritten note sent to subscribers of her newsletter, she said: “No matter how hard I try to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy.”

The announcement was accompanied by the album artwork, which shows the singer smiling as she swings mid-air, dressed in a baby-pink mini dress and black Mary Jane shoes. The look, styled by Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo, reflects what Rodrigo recently described as a more playful and relaxed aesthetic.

Hints of a new musical era had already begun to emerge in recent weeks. Fans, often referred to as “Livies”, had noted a series of cryptic clues, including a mural in Los Angeles that evolved to display the album’s full title, as well as a reset of Rodrigo’s social media accounts and a teaser message referencing a “pink moon”.

Rodrigo has previously released two albums, Sour in 2021 and Guts in 2023, both of which achieved commercial and critical success. The naming pattern had led some fans to speculate that her next release might follow a similar four-letter format.

While the themes of the new album have not been officially confirmed, online discussion has centred on Rodrigo’s personal life, including her past relationship with British actor Louis Partridge. However, no details about specific songs have been disclosed.

The forthcoming 13-track album is expected to showcase a different side of the singer, as she continues to evolve her sound and artistic identity.
