Amelia Moore Talks New EP and Her Songwriting Process

With her vibrant, long orange hair and infectious yet magnetic personality, Amelia Moore lights up any room— if she’s laughing or smiling, you’ll find yourself doing the same without even realising it.
Moore is a fresh and exciting emerging musical artist who is redefining the art and rules of songwriting. Her powerhouse and glass-shattering vocals blend indie and alternative R&B, crafting irresistibly insane catchy hooks that define her sound. And, with two million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 700k followers on TikTok, she is here to stay. Hailing from Georgia, USA and now based in Los Angeles, her musical journey has been anything but conventional. Raised in a conservative Christian household, she began singing in her church choir and started violin lessons at the age of five. Though her talent for the violin was evident, Moore felt drawn to explore beyond the horizons and her violin capabilities. Midway through university, she made the bold decision to drop out and move to LA to pursue music full-time.
It wasn’t long before she quickly gained attention on social media, sharing captivating covers on her social media under the handle @icryatwork and signing with Capitol Records in 2021. Although the record label chose to drop her from their musical roster, her determination remained intact. Due to her loyal fanbase, it opened the opportunity to independently release her debut EP in 2022, teaching a robot to love. She went on to continue her inspiring yet challenging musical journey, releasing music and gathering up over a million likes on TikTok. She landed a Timbaland collaboration, performed on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, and even earned the title of Apple Music’s Up Next spotlight.
Last year she released a second EP titled he’s just not that into you! which only brought her further success. Her single see through became an instant hit, amassing over 10 million streams on Spotify, where she earned performance slots at critically acclaimed music festivals in the United States, including Camp Flog Gnaw and Outside Lands.
Continuing to ride the success of he’s just not that into you!, a second EP is releasing this May as a part two. Moore is already turning heads with the lead single, fuck, marry, kill, a bold precursor to the EP, he’s still just not that into you! We had a chance to hear from Moore ahead of the release, sharing some insight into its creation and her approach to songwriting.
Turning a New Leaf
It’s been a long musical journey for Moore, during which she has been crafting some of her most creative projects to establish her place in the industry. Even when things didn’t seem to be falling into place, she remained grounded, kept writing and continued to grow. After her first record label had dropped her as an artist, her friends would force her out of bed to help spark her creativity again. She recalls buying a camcorder to make videos to remain hopeful and keep going. Her friends remained by her side when she needed emotional support, and to this day, she is still grateful for that loyalty. Despite being dropped from the label, Moore’s drive remained unfazed. She continued releasing music independently and, in March, signed with Republic Records — a testament to her resilience and rising star power.
The Making of he’s still just not that into you!
With the exciting success of her EP, he’s just not that into you!, Moore is set to release the part two continuation— he’s still just not that into you! this upcoming May. “I think a part two EP was always a thought in my mind,” she says, “But the way it has come together has been greater than I was hoping for it to be when I first started to put the tracklist for the first project together”. She describes the process of creating the marketing and promotional visuals for the EP as fun and is proud of the overall outcome. Fans can expect a lot of honesty, light-hearted, silly, quirky niche glimpses into her personality and her music through this release. “And hopefully everyone f*cks with it,” she says, “Hopefully a good response from the girls!”
Amelia the Songwriter
Moore has an incredibly wide range of diverse credits for major artists, such as XG, Polo G, UMI, and ASTN. She feels that her approach to songwriting shifts when it’s for herself or another artist. “In a silly way, I think that writing for other artists can be a bit easier because, as the writer in the room, I feel less attached to the artists’ message as it’s not my personal story,” Moore explains. This lack of attachment allows her to simply bounce ideas around more freely. But when she’s in session for her own projects, she takes things quite seriously and analyses everything, making sure every lyric is perfect for her songs.
“I think sometimes I need to lighten up on myself a little bit when I’m writing for my own stuff,” she admits. “I think the only way I know how to write songs is from a really vulnerable place, and a lot of my songs from my first project, teaching a robot how to love, were songs that I literally just had to write to get it off my chest.” Fans can anticipate hearing more of this vulnerability and honesty on the second EP too.
Interestingly, she shares that her track, next door featuring ASTN wasn’t originally written as an Amelia Moore track — it started as a pitch for another artist, writing it for them in hopes they would take the track. It’s a reminder, she says, that sometimes songs intended for someone else end up being the perfect fit for your own project, and you don’t even realise it.
A Future Worth Waiting For
Moore began taking her musical career seriously at the age of fifteen. Now, at twenty-four, she feels like everything is finally coming together. She sets herself apart from her peers with a unique blend of indie and alternative pop, combining striking vocals with vulnerable yet bold songwriting skills. Her artistry demands attention — not only through her sound but also through her distinct visual aesthetic. Moore is an artist who remains unapologetically true to herself, and she’s here for the long haul. As of May 9th, he’s still just not that into you! will be available worldwide. Fans can be assured that Amelia Moore will soon become a household name as she embarks on her musical journey, where there is more to come.
