Coldplay are on the verge of cementing their place in rock history with their ongoing Music of the Spheres World Tour, grossing a huge $945.7m in ticket sales.

Currently in the middle of the tour’s third European leg, the British quartet has already performed across multiple continents, including Asia, North America, and South America. The tour is far from over, with 11 more shows planned later this year in Australia and New Zealand. This globe-trotting spectacle has not only captivated millions of fans but also set a new milestone in Billboard’s Boxscore archives, making it the highest-grossing rock tour of all time.

Since its launch in March 2022, the Music of the Spheres World Tour has grossed an astounding $945.7 million and sold 8.8 million tickets, according to data collated by Billboard Boxscore. These figures place Coldplay at the pinnacle of rock tours, surpassing even the most iconic acts in the genre’s history.

Previously, Elton John held the record with his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which grossed $939.1 million during its run from 2018 to 2023. John’s tour had dethroned U2’s U2 360 Tour, which brought in $736.4 million between 2009 and 2011. Before U2, The Rolling Stones held the crown with their A Bigger Bang Tour, which earned $558 million from 2005 to 2007.

Coldplay’s achievement is particularly remarkable given the legendary status of the acts they have surpassed. The all-time top 10 highest-grossing rock tours also feature major legacy artists including AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Roger Waters.

The band, known for its energetic performances and all-encompassing stage productions, has continued to draw massive crowds at each stop on the tour. With 21 shows still on the schedule – half in Europe and the other half in Oceania – Coldplay shows no signs of slowing down. Based on their track record this year, the remaining dates could potentially add another million tickets to their already impressive total, pushing the final count close to an unprecedented 10 million tickets sold.
