Why Omar Rudberg Should Be On Your Radar Right Now

You may know him from everyone’s favourite Swedish queer series, Young Royals. Omar played Simon Eriksson, one-half of the fan-favourite couple Wilmon, and it was this very role that gave him global recognition.

Omar isn’t just a pretty face, he oozes style, talent and is fluent in Spanish, Swedish and English. The Venezuelan Swedish singer began his career as a member of the Swedish group FO&O formed in 2013 and released two albums before going on hiatus in 2017, leaving Omar to branch out and begin his solo career in 2018. Omar has released several singles as a solo artist, showcasing his versatility and talent. His work often blends pop with Latin influences, reflecting his multicultural background. Not only can he sing, and act but he can also dance – talk about a triple threat!

Omar launched his own beauty company OMR Beauty back in November 2023. As he continues to merge as an artist in his own right, touring festivals over the summer – get ready for Omar Rudberg to take over the world! With his latest single, Red Light garnering one-million-plus streams and his next release, Talk, to be released on 28 June, here’s hoping he tours the UK soon!

Multi-Talented Artist

Omar’s versatility as an artist has proven popular amongst fans with Young Royals as a working-class student Simon Eriksson, giving him global recognition thus becoming a firm favourite in queer culture. Young Royals allowed him to capitalise on his musical career. His character Simon, a standout student in the school choir, composes an uplifting love song for Willie in the second season, which is simply named Simon’s Song.

He is not afraid to express himself through fashion, makeup and music. He is made to sell out concerts and I for one cannot wait to be able to finally attend a show and sing along.

He continues to showcase his talent whether it’s performing or slaying the red carpet. The world is his oyster as he continues forging his own path.

Self Expression

As we all saw at the Oscars, he is not afraid to express himself and still looks so good! Omar is renowned for his daring and unique fashion choices. He frequently plays with various looks, mixing aspects of high fashion, streetwear, and attire that blurs the lines between genders. His sense of style subverts conventional wisdom and advances the ideas of uniqueness and self-assurance. He also has his own beauty line ‘OMR Beauty’ and is challenging the beauty industry – makeup and beauty don’t have gender.

In a 2019 interview with Swedish LGBTQ+ magazine QX, Omar said  “I don’t have a ‘label’. As a person, I’m very open-minded. I dare not put a title. It feels so damn scary. Sometimes I hang out with guys, sometimes with girls. It varies. I don’t know if it’s because of my age, that I’m still young. I feel lost, not in a bad way, but just lost in life.”

Musicality

Omar has this ability to be able to cover different styles of his musicality from emotional ballads like Breathe, She Fell in Love in the Summer, Dum and his latest release Red Light, to upbeat tracks including Mi Casa Su Casa, Moving Like That, In the Sunrise, and stunning covers It Takes A Fool To Remain Sane, Om du inte fanns (Don’t Wait), Min Forsta (I Will Always Be Your Soldier) and Hoj ett glas (Fanfar).

Omar Rudberg creates a vivid and energetic sound that is appealing to a broad audience by skillfully fusing pop with Latin influences. He frequently incorporates pop culture and traditional Latin music into his songs, which have appealing melodies and energetic beats. As many TikTok videos have proven, he can really strut his stuff.

What this all highlights is that he is much more than Simon from Young Royals, He is Omar Rudberg – this is his world and we are just living in it. I cannot wait to see what he does next so do yourself a favour and listen to the many songs from Omar Rudberg, you will fall in love with him and his many talents.
