Sabrina Carpenter has set a new record for the most weeks spent at Number One on the UK Singles Chart by a female artist in a year.

This achievement is the result of three of Sabrina’s singles dominating the charts throughout the year. Taste has spent seven consecutive weeks at Number 1 since the release of Sabrina’s huge summer album, Short n’ Sweet, while her earlier hit Espresso enjoyed seven non-consecutive weeks at the top. The later release of Please Please Please added another five non-consecutive weeks to her tally.

With her emotive voice and sharp-tongued lyrics, Sabrina quickly made a name for herself in the world of pop.

Starting out on Disney Channel as Maya Hart in the hit series Girl Meets World, Carpenter followed in the footsteps of many Disney stars gone before. She transitioned into the music industry in 2014 with her debut EP, Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying, and evolved over the years through various eras including EVOLution, Singular, Acts I and II, and Emails I Can’t Send, in 2022.

The album solidified her as one of pop’s rising stars, with tracks like Nonsense becoming viral sensations on TikTok.

But Sabrina’s 19-week run surpasses the previous record held by Olivia Newton-John, who spent 16 weeks at the top of the UK charts in 1978. This milestone not only marks Sabrina’s dominance in 2024 but also places her in the same league as Ed Sheeran, with both artists now tied for the most weeks at Number 1 in a calendar year this century.
