Miley Cyrus to Revisit Breakout Role in New Disney+ Anniversary Special

It could be the best of both worlds for fans as Miley Cyrus revisits Hannah Montana in a new 20th anniversary special.
The programme will mark two decades since the show first aired on Disney Channel and became a defining feature of children’s television in the mid-2000s. Filmed before a live studio audience, the special will feature an extended interview with star Miley Cyrus, hosted by podcast presenter Alex Cooper.
Producers say the discussion will explore the origins of the series and its central character, alongside reflections on its cultural impact. Archival footage will be shown for the first time, while several well-known sets, including the Stewart family living room and the character’s wardrobe space, are to be recreated. Musical elements linked to the series are also expected to feature.
The Emmy-nominated programme grew into a global franchise, credited with shaping youth television and influencing fashion and music trends. It led to multiple platinum and gold records and spin-off productions, including the feature film Hannah Montana: The Movie and the concert release Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert.
Cyrus said the project was intended as a tribute to viewers. “It will always be part of who I am,” she said. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of.”
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said the show’s message of self-expression continued to resonate across generations. She described the special as “a love letter to the fans”.
The anniversary programme is produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions, with Ashley Edens as showrunner. Executive producers include Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Cooper and Matt Kaplan.
Viewers will also be able to revisit the series ahead of the broadcast through a curated collection on the streaming platform. From 19 February, a continuous stream featuring all four seasons and related films will be available. According to Disney, the franchise has accumulated more than half a billion viewing hours worldwide on the service, underlining its enduring popularity.
Hannah Montana: 20th Anniversary Special will premiere on Disney+ on 24 March.
