Netflix Back on Course to Air Talent Show Featuring Liam Payne
Netflix has confirmed the upcoming release of Building the Band, a new talent show judged by the late One Direction star Liam Payne.
Building the Band follows aspiring musicians as they attempt to form a new music group. Contestants are placed in separate booths, unable to see each other while they make their member selections based solely on musical compatibility, chemistry, and talent.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the show will feature “incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal – to find the next great music band.”
Liam Payne, who died in October 2024 following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, filmed his role as a judge alongside Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland and Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger. While Netflix has yet to announce an official release date, the confirmation came as part of the streaming giant’s unveiling of new TV and film content slated for 2025.
The series was one of Payne’s final projects before his tragic passing at the age of 31.
Hosting the series is Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean, with Scherzinger serving as both mentor and judge. Payne and Rowland will appear as guest judges, lending their expertise to the contestants.
The release of Building the Band is expected to be an emotional tribute to Payne’s talent and legacy in the music industry, offering fans one final opportunity to see him in action as a mentor and judge.
