12 Christmas Tunes You May Not Have Heard

In a field somewhat oversaturated with Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé tracks, we wanted to offer up some new songs to add to your Christmas party mixes and chill winter playlists. Here are 12 Christmas songs you may not have heard, 12 days before Christmas!

Kid On Christmas – Madi Diaz

Shortly after receiving Grammy nominations for her album Weird Faith, released earlier this year, Madi Diaz dropped this slow holiday track. It is perfect for your cosy evenings, winter walks and relaxing baths and once you’re done with this one, we recommend checking out more of her stunning songs.

Merry Christmas – Cate

If you like Maisie Peters and have yet to listen to her good friend Cate, now is the time. She has recently dropped this Christmas hit that fits right in with the new style of pop girl music that has been so successful this year.

Presents Without A Bow – Kacey Musgraves

An underrated Christmas icon, country-pop singer Kacey Musgraves has two holiday albums to her name full of covers and original songs featuring some major artists. This one is with her good friend Leon Bridges. It has her usual country flair mixed with subtle jingling bells for a festive feel.

Groovy Xmas – The Linda Lindas

Some of my favourite Christmas songs are the ones with a bit of an edge and that is exactly what this track from the all-female rock band, The Linda Lindas, has. It has also got a distinctly early 2000s pop punk feel that I can imagine would have been perfect for a holiday movie soundtrack from that era if it weren’t for the fact that it was only released in 2022.

Christmas Ain’t Got Nothing On You – Natalie Jane

Natalie Jane, an upcoming artist with a whole lot of promise, has released this playful, and somewhat risqué track, just in time for the holiday season. It’s energy and electronic elements is made for lovers of Charli XCX and Tate McRae.

All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy – Megan Moroney

As much as it has been year of the pop girls, country music has had a huge takeover this year. Megan Moroney has been a key player in the genre’s revival and she has recently released this festive EP of three tracks, including one cover of Elvis Presley’s Blue Christmas. She could have gone down a traditional Christmas song route with bells and pop melodies, but she has stuck firmly to her roots as evident in the first track, All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy. Her Southern accent and the layered twangs of acoustic guitars keep it firmly in the country field and we are so here for it.

Ribbons And Bows – Kacey Musgraves

Despite not needing them in this track, Musgraves is seemingly a fan of bows. Full of classic festive charm, this song is all about wanting nothing for Christmas other than love from that special someone.

I Won’t Be Home For Christmas – blink-182

As I say, I like a Christmas song with an edge, and I am surprised that this one fell under my radar. Released in 2001, this track, I Won’t Be Home For Christmas, is quintessentially blink-182 with electric guitars and punk-emo pronunciation.

Winter Things – Ariana Grande

We all know her Christmas hit Santa Tell Me, and I have no doubt that the hard-core Arianators know every holiday track of hers but for those of you who do not know this one, get to know it! One of my favourites from her festive EPs, Winter Things is a light-hearted love track about spending time with a partner in the holiday season.

Christmas Must Be Something More – Taylor Swift

Like Grande, Taylor Swift has a major holiday hit with Christmas Tree Farm but this track from her EP The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection is a little more underrated. The song has less than 8 million streams on Spotify, which for someone as big as Swift, is very low. But, that does not mean it isn’t good! The track is warming and sweet and, having been released back in 2008, has the country flair of early Swift that we know and love.

Seat At The Table – The Vamps

Another slow track, pop band The Vamps reflect on past Christmases and how things have changed. For fans of the group, it is reminiscent of some of their earlier mellow tracks like Shout About It.

So Much Wine – Phoebe Bridgers

I know what you are thinking, this one is not an original song but that is why it has come last, as a bit of an honorary mention. Phoebe Bridgers has been releasing holiday covers each year since 2017, and this cover of The Handsome Family song must be one of her best. We just hope there is another from Bridgers heading our way this Christmas.
