Caroline Romano’s New Single, Body Bag, is the Perfect End-of-Summer Song
A woman’s early twenties are a whirlwind of emotions, growth, and change. No one knows this better than Caroline Romano. Her latest single, Body Bag, sees the 22-year-old Nashville-based artist dive into the confusing feelings around love and life in general during this tumultuous transitional period.
Like many up-and-coming artists, Romano began teasing the track on TikTok. Her first video which revealed an intriguing snippet of the new song was uploaded on 25 July and fans immediately expressed their excitement in the comments.
Opening with a driving guitar beat and reflections on years past, the song transitions into a chorus with a drumbeat reminiscent of a pounding heart. Paired with the lyrics “The party’s over, can’t find a lover, still I wear my best dress like a body bag”, its lyrics perfectly encapsulate the feelings of getting all dolled up for a party, feeling your best, and still going home alone at the end of the night.
The second verse delves further into the frustration with modern love and dating. The emotions build not only through Romano’s lyrics but the addition of drums and piano.
Romano describes the song as “running barefoot on the concrete, chasing something you can’t quite put your finger on, but running towards it nonetheless”. This feeling is evident throughout the song but really shines through in the bridge of the song. The high energy of the chorus continues on into the bridge and builds until the last lines where Romano showcases her vocals, belting out the final notes before finishing out the song with another chorus.
Even though the song focuses on some of the harsher realities of life, Body Bag is just one of those songs you can’t help but jam to.
Body Bag is Romano’s third single of the year, coming as a follow-up to Used By You which was released in February and has amassed over 50,000 plays on Spotify so far. Her second 2024 single, Doesn’t Matter, was released in May and has over 20,000 streams. Romano also supported Small Pools and Grayscale on their US tour earlier this year.
For anyone looking for the perfect song to soundtrack the end of summer, your search is over.
