Sabrina Carpenter Delivers Nostalgia and Comedy in Netflix Special
She is 2024’s biggest pop girlie and her own Netflix Christmas special, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter confirms that.
Straight off the back of supporting Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour and the release of her number one album, Short n’ Sweet, Sabrina Carpenter is in the middle of her sold out world tour. She might not be the newest pop star on the scene, but she has caught everyone’s eye (and ears) this year.
Last year she released her Christmas EP ‘Fruitcake’ and the year before ‘A Nonsense Christmas’, a witty Christmas take on her ‘pop hit’ Nonsense, so it only makes sense that the next step is a Christmas special with special guests.
All the way through it has a nostalgic glow, from the start where Carpenter dons a long red gown and sleek black gloves like an old Hollywood star right up to the stripped backed version of her acoustic track cindy lou who, shot in black and white to really hit you in the feels.
Featuring some supposedly behind the scenes footage, it has been filmed to make you feel like it is live and shot in one take with a live audience, although when you see the outtakes at the end it does confirm this is not the case. Nonetheless, this does add to the nostalgic feeling as if it was an 80’s special.
She states herself that this is a musical comedy Christmas special with special celebrity guests, and she delivers in every way. Comedy sketches are enveloped in between songs and performances, taking her back to her acting roots, and every time you see her, she is sporting a different outfit, clearly making use of the ‘no budget’ she says Netflix gave her for this production.
If this was not enough, Carpenter brings a handful of celebrity guests to keep you on your toes. From the first guest Tyla to Shania Twain, and even this year’s newest pop girl Chappell Roan for a duet of Last Christmas in matching outfits, it is a star-studded line-up. If Carpenter and Roan do not release a recorded version of their stunning duet, then they are missing a trick! There is even a special appearance from the big man himself, Santa Claus! These are not the only special guests included so make sure to keep your eyes open to see who else you can spot.
Of course, there is no other way to end A Nonsense Christmas Special than with a performance of A Nonsense Christmas itself. And she does not disappoint with a special outro just for this, but you will have to go and watch for yourself to see!
It is a fun, feel good Christmas singalong with her own songs and some classics along the way. There is no question in why Carpenter has become such a success this last year, only what will she do next?
