Jazmin Bean’s Frenzy Infused Show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC
Going into this show blind, I had no idea what to expect. But as soon as I walked into the infamous 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. and saw a sea of young girls dressed like they were straight out of the corpse bride, I knew I was in for a good show. Anytime I see people committed enough to dress up for a concert to honour their favourite acts, it is a clear sign that the artist is doing something right. It is a visual representation of the connection they have fostered with their fans. This crowd was filled with row after row of fans draped in tutu dresses, excessive ribbons, and tattered wedding veils.
After opening the night with a punk-infused set from Breezy Supreme, Jazmin Bean took the stage and immediately set the crowd into a frenzy. After seeing them for myself, the inspiration for the fans’ garb all made sense. Bean rocked a lace maxi-dress and was decked out in ribbons of their own. The ribbons became a talking point of their own as they dramatically fell off throughout the show. The singer ceremoniously threw the ribbons out into the crowd and the front row fought for their chance to take the fallen accessories home as a souvenir.
Despite being ill and having to cancel a VIP Meet and Greet earlier in the day, their voice never faltered as they delivered a set full of distorted, fantastical dream pop. Favourite Toy personally stood out to me, but the energy during the encore of Saccharine was undeniable. Whether you are a long-term fan, a casual listener, or an unexpecting musical wander, the Traumatic Livelihood Tour has something for everyone.
