Autumn has officially arrived, so from here on in it’s cosy jumpers firmly on and warm drinks permanently in hand for us. Our playlists are no longer featuring the songs to suit those long summer day, but turning them in for autumnal walks and cosy evenings snuggled up; however this doesn’t mean we can’t still listen to some absolute bops! Here’s our pick of the five best releases we’ve been graced with in September.
The first release from what is soon to be 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the latest tune from Queen T, is her re-recorded version of Wildest Dreams. The ethereal charm that is oh-so natural for Taylor is portrayed in the classic song that takes you straight back to 2014, listening to it for the first time. We can’t wait to hear what else Swift has to offer; I’m particularly looking forward to Blank Space and Out Of The Woods.
U&ME is the latest offering from indie-electro trio alt-J. Singer Joe Newman’s distinctive vocals carry the song, and despite honestly not knowing what he’s saying for the majority of the time, it’s such a peaceful and easy listen. After a four-year hiatus (sorry I know hiatus is a taboo word in these parts), the band released U&ME as the debut single from their upcoming fourth studio album The Dream, set to drop in February 2022.
LA indie pop rockers Wallows are back with their latest single, since the release of their Remote EP earlier this year. I Don’t Want To Talk embraces the recognisable Wallows traits; catchy riffs, earworm lyrics, melodies that make you wanna dance, and a few “woo’s” here and there – plus IDWTT features the melodic sounds of a harmonica. The trio have an American tour set in place for next year, including a two night residency at The Warfield in San Francisco. Their debut album was released in 2019, so let’s see if there’s an upcoming album number two in the pipeline.
Back In Love City is the title track for The Vaccines’ fifth studio album. Currently embarking on their UK tour, the indie rockers are showcasing the delights of their album to the masses. Back In Love City, possesses the infectious upbeat indie pop that The Vaccines are famously known for. The single itself is very reminiscent of their earlier releases, which is nice to see the band going full circle, back to the music that gave them their successful career. The thirteen track album is out now, so give it all a lil listen.
Title track from the debut album of Lil Nas X is our last pick of the month. A song that has been doing the rounds on all the socials since it’s actual release in March earlier this year, but we had to include it as the album has just been released and MONTERO is still a certified banger. The accompanying video is an ethereal, historical fairytale that sees every character being played by Lil Nas X himself, a many of many talents. The album also features a few songs with collaborated artists, including the likes of Sir Elton John, Miley, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion and man of the moment Jack Harlow.
