As August slips away (take note of the pun, courtesy of our queen here at TFG, Taylor Swift) and Autumn slowly rolls in, it is safe to say that the music that we have been blessed with this month has been nothing short of extraordinary. Where artists who, despite the neverending pandemic, are working so hard to release the absolute best bops for us to continue playing through the rest of 2021. So here are 5 of the best releases in August.
Make sure to add all of these songs to your playlists, you’re not going to want to miss out!
The bass and tempo of this song will never be unfamiliar to those who have heard of it, and even if you don’t know the artists’ name or the title, you for sure know that this has been one of the most played songs for the past couple of months, especially August. Maneskin came to be majorly known worldwide after winning this year’s Eurovision and have since then grown a supportive fanbase, climbed the charts in multiple countries securing themselves #1 spots and have had their songs go viral on TikTok, accumulating millions of hits. It’s safe to say that Maneskin are working their way up with increasing popularity, especially with collaborations with America’s “Godfather of Punk” Iggy Pop which has been widely appreciated by many. It is definitely a HUGE achievement for them and their fans and we are so proud of them!
Lizzo is back and better than ever! Her new era is upon us, and she has been teasing us for weeks about her new release. The album, unbeknownst to us, has no name or release date yet, but on August 13th, Lizzo dropped her new lead single ‘Rumors’ with collaborator Cardi B which blew us away! The song itself is a feel-good, fun pop song with a bassy beat that makes you want to dance all night. Lizzo never disappoints, and neither does Cardi, and both of them being together has made one of the best songs of 2021, what a comeback! The song, mainly based around the public and media scrutinizing artists’ lives, was hit back at with the two females talking about body positivity, the freedom of having control and showing that it is hard being in the limelight. Overall, the song is a 10/10 and has definitely proved a point to those haters: why you spendin’ all of your time tryna break a woman down? Hm?
Oh my Lorde… she’s returned! After being away from music on hiatus for 4 years, the release of “Solar Power” brought Lorde back on the music charts after the release of her second album ‘Melodrama’ in 2017. Her extended hiatus allowed her to create and put out her best body of work, in her opinion with her saying ‘this song will linger on your skin like a tan when the cooler months set in’. Well, we can’t wait for that. The song itself is definitely a fun, playful acoustic number that will have us feeling like we’re floating down a sunny, light breezy path on holiday. It is definitely a late, summer anthem that we won’t be getting over anytime soon – make sure to check out the new album, also and add it to your playlists!
Skrillex and Justin Bieber have teamed up once again, but this time with ‘No Idea’, TikTok viral star Don Toliver to bring us one of the best trios of 2021. The song is an RnB ‘dream-like’ beat, where Bieber’s and Toliver’s vocals dominate the track with Skrillex producing the sickest beats in the background, making the whole track flow easily. It has been accompanied by a music video where we see Justin getting encased in gold sporting his good ol’ dreadlocks – what a look! Skrillex isn’t planning on bringing out any new albums soon that we know of, he’s releasing songs as and when he has been making them throughout the pandemic, which we don’t blame him for, it’s exciting, isn’t it?! Just having a new song drop out of nowhere! Skrillex’s music and genres have definitely changed over the years, from songs like ‘Bangarang’ and ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ with a techno dubstep base, to releasing ‘Where Are U Now?’ With Justin Bieber bringing in a Pop/RnB vibe, he says that he “really likes to delve into different sounds and never glued into one genre” which is admirable – change is good, especially when it brings us bangers like this one!
Rounding off our 5 of the best releases in August, from the title of her newly announced album comes the lead song ‘Star Crossed’ and we have to say, Miss Musgraves didn’t disappoint. Starting off with a long melancholy introduction, leading into what is a fully written out song about divorce, the whole process involves giving us and her fans an insight into what it’s been like for her since her split with her now ex-husband in July. Bless Kacey, you have our hearts. She really put her heart out for us and produced such a wonderful, emotive song which probably sets the scene for her album, which is yet to be released. It’s such an exciting time and with the sound of synths all over the track by the bridge, it really blew us all away. Kacey has always been straightforward – and this time is no different, stating that the message for ‘Star-Crossed’ is ‘to be f*cked by love or luck’… so it’s your choice besties! We genuinely can’t wait to hear Kacey’s new album, if it’s anything like Golden Hour, her fourth studio album, then we really aren’t mentally, physically or emotionally prepared for this one!
