Over his career in music, from One Direction to his solo stuff, Louis Tomlinson has written a collection of songs that really do just hit the spot. We decided to make a list of our top 5 tracks that are MUST listens if you haven’t already!
‘Two of Us’ was a released as a single off of Louis’ debut album ‘Walls’ in 2019. The song is one of the most meaningful songs that the One Direction star has written. ‘Two of Us’ is about his late mum, Johannah, who sadly passed away in 2016 after battling cancer. The track honours Tomlinson’s mum’s memory and speaks about the impact it has had on louis himself. The lyrics speak about how Tomlinson plans on living for him and his mum and that everything he plans to do is for her, to make her proud after revealing in an interview that she was his biggest support.
‘No Control’ was a track on One Direction’s fourth album ‘FOUR’ written by Louis himself. Although the song wasn’t a single it became the fans mission to ensure that the song got the radio play it deserved; which led to Project No Control, an online campaign to get the song on the radio. The campaign resulted in ‘No Control’ being the first non-single to ever win a teen choice award. The track was significant on the album also as it features Louis on primary lead vocals for the chorus which was a first for him as well as co-writing the song with band mate, Liam Payne. The song also included lyrics of sex marks which showed a clear transition of a more mature sound for the band after being in the industry for 4 years after The X Factor.
‘Habit’ is the seventh track from Louis’ debut album Walls which was released on the 31 st of January 2020. The song is 100% a fan favourite and is a track that certainly only fans will understand the meaning of. The track features references to the one direction days with the lyric ‘Come so far from princess park’, which was where the band use to live back in the early days. For the Larry stans out there, this is certainly in every playlist you have. Louis Tomlinson also stated that music is the habit that he keeps coming back to; he said that the song was a thank you to the fans.
Louis Tomlinson wrote ‘Home’ with band mate Liam Payne; however the song never made it onto one of the bands five albums. Instead, the track was released as a special edition song as part of the Perfect EP. Once again, although the track wasn’t actually a single it still won the fan voted Teen Choice Award for Choice Music Single: Group. Similar to Project No Control, on 23rd April 2016 fans began a month’s worth of online promotion for ‘Home’ focussing on a new aspect of the song each day; Project Home became a success with 3 of the band thanking fans as well as gaining radio play.
‘Miss You’ was one of the earlier tracks released in Louis’ solo career, dating back to December 2017; the follow up track to ‘just hold on’. Although ‘Miss you’ only made it on to the Japanese version of Walls, MTV News regarded the track as ‘an undeniable anthem that sounds 100% Louis’. Lyrically the song details the drunken thoughts when out partying about a former partner that you can’t seem to stop thinking about and missing them. The song is a sing along pop anthem; and is one that would undeniably be one of the loudest songs on tour. Fingers crossed he plays it.
